Government MPs are hoping to limp over the Christmas holiday finish line, when the nation is distracted by cricket, BBQ & beaches. Till then, the absolute distraction of the parliamentarian citizenship saga continues, further eroding the Government’s political capital and the Prime Minister’s personal influence. Inability to carry the Governments position in a public debate has investment implications. Who would have thought the Coalition would preside over an investigation into banks? With the opposition able to bait the Government into action, and regardless of the next election result, we can’t ignore Labor’s policy agenda in considering near term sovereign risk.
